As of September there will be a new boss for Volvo Group Australia. The move has been made as the current President of VGA, Peter Voorhoeve has been announced as the next President of Volvo Trucks North America.
Today sees the introduction of a new major truck maker brand, Traton. This is the name chosen by the powers that be at the head of the Volkswagen Truck and Bus Group.

A presentation in Melbourne this week has confirmed the Freightliner Cascadia is in Australia to commence a comprehensive testing and evaluation program in the lead up to its launch in Australia in early 2020.

Drilling down into the new Scania ‘New Truck Generation’ (NTG) is full of innovation. There is a big flat-floored cabin coming – the S Series – which is just like the R Series, only higher. There is also the XT Series, a robust variation aimed at the bulk construction materials sector, well suited to mining applications. It’s a wide range of new product to carry the brand through for many years to come.
It has been a long time coming, but the International ProStar is now on the street in Australia. As the pioneer of the return of International brand to the trucking market, the ProStar model keeps it simple, with only a few specification variations and a no-nonsense set-up.
If we look at the fundamentals of the Mack Anthem, as it is sold on the North American market, we can also get a good idea of how the innovations will flow out when the model is introduced, down the track, to Australia.
Both Iveco and Volvo have announced the appointment of a new person to head truck sales of their respective brands. There’s two new sales bosses for European brands, a new General Manager Sales at Iveco and a new Vice President Sales at Volvo.
Scott Slater has taken over the position of General Manager – Sales at Iveco Trucks, replacing Geoff Buswell who will take on a new position within the CNH Industrial Group in Australia. This new role will see Slater assume sales responsibility for both Iveco’s National Key Accounts as well as Dealers.
He has already spent 18 months as Iveco National Key Accounts Manager and before that was General Manager at Iveco Dealership, Melbourne Truck Centre. In total, he has been involved in commercial vehicle sales for over 18 years.
“It’s an exciting time for Iveco in Australia, the product offering is the strongest it’s been in many years and this positions us well for future sales growth,” said Slater. “The brand has performed strongly in the light market over the past 12to18 months and during this time has also set solid foundations for this momentum to continue across to the medium and heavy segments.
“Having the Iveco heavy duty range with models such as the Stralis and Acco being made locally, provides a real advantage for customers in terms of the flexibility and customisation levels we can provide them. I’ll be focusing on promoting these benefits to prospective Iveco customers in the months ahead,”
Iveco Australia boss, Bruce Healy, thanked Geoff Buswell for his contribution to Iveco, and also said that Slater was well credentialed to take on the new role.
“Geoff did a great job over the last three years in strengthening Iveco’s Dealer Network and played a pivotal role in introducing successful new initiatives such as Daily specialist Dealers to the network,” said Healy. “Given Scott’s extensive heavy vehicle sales industry experience, both at the manufacturer level and in retail sales, he is very well suited to step-up into the new role. We look forward to him making a strong contribution.”
Meanwhile, Volvo Group Australia announced the appointment of Clive Jones as Vice-President Sales Volvo Trucks Australia, New Zealand and Oceania markets, commencing in August. He is currently Volvo National Sales Manager in New Zealand, and will replace Mitch Peden who moves to the role of Managing Director Volvo Malaysia in August.
“For the past 16 years Clive has been instrumental in building the presence of Volvo Trucks and Buses in New Zealand, and we are looking forward to leveraging his deep insight gained from more than 20 years of experience in the truck industry,” said Peter Voorhoeve, President and CEO of Volvo Group Australia.
“Clive has been part of the Volvo family for most of his career, from the early days when he started driving a Volvo FH up and down the highways of New Zealand. He has a deep understanding of our customers and our product, and his appointment only adds to the strength of the Volvo Group Australia leadership team.”
Clive Jones said he was looking forward to building on the successes of his predecessor to take the Volvo Trucks brand into an even more dominant market position.
“My involvement with Volvo Group Australia spans my entire tenure with the Volvo brand, and I’ve met many Australian customers along the journey thus far,” said Jones. “I am a firm believer that our people are the key to our success and developing their skills and mindset with a customer-centric focus has been one of the ingredients of Volvo Trucks’ success in both Australia and New Zealand.
“Alongside a passion for Volvo, being able to work with the best people in the business in Australia has been a significant part of my decision to take on this role, and I relish the challenges and opportunities it will bring.”
