Founder and CEO of Transtech killed in light aircraft accident

The founder and CEshaunO of specialist transport IT company Transtech was killed in a light aircraft accident last week.

Shaun Owen, 51, died when his Cirrus SR22 aircraft struck trees on the approach to a private airstrip at Boxwood, north of Benalla, after returning from Moorabbin Airport on the evening of June 27.

Shaun died at the scene shortly after 6pm (AEST) said a Transtech release.

The release said Shaun was a passionate flyer, and was the CEO of Transtech from its inception, prior to which he was Manager of IT Technical Support at national LPG distributor Elgas.

“He built Transtech based on his passion for the transport industry and strived for the company to become Australia’s leading transport technology solution provider,” said the release.

Shaun was closely involved with regulators and jurisdictions, as well as lobby groups and was highly respected throughout the transport and logistics industry.

He remained active in compliance and safety from its upbringings in Australia and was also the foundation Chair of the Intelligent Access Program Service Provider Forum, in which he utilised his expertise in the provision of compliance systems to transport operators across Australia.

He also spent five years lecturing at the University of Western Sydney in the Applied Science (Computing) degree program, focusing on system design and implementation subjects.

At the time of his death, he was studying for an MBA with the Melbourne Business School and planned to graduate in 2014.

“He undertook everything with a passion, and that reflected on his impact in the Transport and Logistics industry. He built Transtech based on his passions and had an unwavering commitment to customer service,” said the release.

He was a committed family man who was active in his local church and community and leaves behind his wife Jenny and four children.
