Going for Gold

going for gold

Isuzu in Australia is going for gold, as it is fast approaching an unprecedented 30 years as Australia’s overall truck market leader. There are two distinct reasons for this protracted period of market domination. First and foremost is the quality and durability of the products it sells, closely followed by the outstanding customer service and product support provided by its many dedicated dealerships across the length and breadth of this great country.

In a nutshell, Isuzu in partnership with its dealers provides what a multitude of Aussie truck operators deem to be the ideal solution for their trucking needs.

Of course, achieving and maintaining this level of customer satisfaction doesn’t come easy, especially considering the ever-present danger of competitor brands nipping at the heels.

Nevertheless, Isuzu along with its dealer network remains determined to keep upping the ante in order to at least maintain if not expand its loyal customer base ad-infinitum. Who knows, in another three decades we could be staring down the barrel of 60 years market leadership by the iconic Japanese brand.

As previously mentioned, the close collaboration between Isuzu and its dealers is a driving force behind the brand’s success and to this end Gold Coast Isuzu is a prime example. Gold Coast Isuzu recently opened an impressive all-new facility beside the M1 motorway at Arundel. Diesel Workshop was given a grand tour of this state-of-the-art centre designed to keep it at the top of its game.

As of July last year, the dealership is owned by a consortium comprising Frizelle’s Automotive Group (Frizelle’s) and Peter Warren Automotive Group (PWG), in partnership with Quadrant Private Equity.

The combination brings together two of Australia’s most trusted and well established automotive retailing groups, with a combined history of over 100 years. The combined group is expected to generate approximately $1.5 billion in annual revenues and will be led by Paul Warren.

The Isuzu truck franchise was, in fact, one of the first to join Frizelle’s portfolio in 1992 at a location in Southport. Then in 1999 the dealership was moved to an existing site at Nerang while work commenced on a new purpose-built facility just up the road. This was opened with much fanfare in 2000 and served the company well over the next decade or so. However, due to a number of factors, not least the runaway success of the Isuzu brand, by 2011 it was clear that a larger facility was needed.

Around that time a 4.4 hectare parcel of land that had previously been home to a service station on the old Pacific Highway at Arundel, before the motorway was built, became available for sale and was duly deemed by the Frizelle’s to be an ideal location for the next phase in its Isuzu franchise.

Five years of planning followed the land purchase, ensuring there was no stone left unturned in the quest to create the best possible facility for customers and employees alike. Construction of the 6000 m2 building started in late 2016 and was completed 11 months later, with the moving in process commencing in November 2017.

Critically, the sheer size of the new establishment enabled all elements of Frizelle’s and PWG’s commercial vehicle interests including Isuzu Trucks, Isuzu Ute and Volkswagen Commercial to be situated on a single site. In addition, there was also room for a dedicated used vehicle refurbishment facility that caters for the entire operation.

Location, Location, Location

Situated on the service road east of the M1, the new facility has arguably the best exposure of any commercial vehicle dealership on the Gold Coast. Some 140,000 vehicles pass by each and every day and the resplendent lighting and signage is certainly a sight to behold, particularly at night. Crucially, access from the motorway either north or southbound couldn’t be easier, taking little more than a couple of minutes.

Once inside the premises an undercover service reception breezeway enables the customer to disembark from their vehicle and comfortably walk to the service counter regardless of weather conditions. That’s the beauty of this site in stark contrast to the cramped confines of the previous premises. Everything has been designed to heighten the customer experience when visiting the dealership.
