Looking at Clutch Replacement

An OEM clutch manufacturer which supplies clutches for Isuzu, Hino, Mitsubishi Fuso and UD, Exedy, reckons it supplies clutch products for over 80 per cent of the domestic Japanese commercial vehicle market.

The manufacturers trust us, we build their products to the exact specifications for each model and that’s why when it comes time to replace a commercial clutch, more and more workshops rely on Exedy,” said Mark Davis, Exedy Product Manager. “Unlike many other replacement clutches which may physically ‘fit’ but are not necessarily designed for the application, ours are designed specifically to suit the make, model and engine characteristics.”

Exedy sells its range of Truck Tuff clutches to cater for Japanese, American and European commercial vehicle clutch needs.

We have built our reputation on manufacturing a quality product and providing expert after sales service,” said Davis. “It doesn’t matter if you’re running a light tray back, medium to heavy rigid, or a fleet of B-doubles, we’ve got the right clutch for the job.”

The TTK series from Exedy is designed for American heavy commercials. The clutches were developed in conjunction with the American driveline specialist Illinois Auto Truck. It includes a choice of 14 to 15.5 inch organic or cerametallic, single or twin plate clutch applications.

The TTK 14 inch pressed metal assemblies are designed to deliver clamping forces of up to 3200 pounds to suit 1.5, 1.75 and 2 inch input shafts and are available with torque ratings of up to 1050 foot pounds.

The next step up in the TTK range is the 14 inch ‘Easy Effort’ cast assemblies with clamping forces of up to 3600 pounds to suit 1.75 and 2 inch input shafts. These are designed to deliver torque ratings of up to 1400 foot pounds.

The largest assemblies in the TTK range are 15.5 inch and are manufactured utilising the ‘Easy Effort’ low pedal effort design,” said Davis. “With clamping forces of up to 4200 pounds to suit 1.75 and 2 inch input shafts, these monsters can deliver torque ratings of up to 2250 foot pounds.”

Exedy also offer a range of clutches for European light, medium and heavy commercial vehicles, including Volvo, Scania, IVECO, MAN, DAF and Mercedes Benz. Both single or twin plate clutches are available in sizes up to 430mm. There are diaphragm and lever type assemblies covered as well as clutches to suit push or pull type release mechanisms.
