A major new Scania release, of a new European long haul prime mover, has been announced for August 23. It is expected to be the long expected and occasionally spied model pictured below and spotted by a keen eyed truck enthusiast in Sweden in 2014.
Diesel News reported on the sighting back in February 2014. At the time, Diesel News speculated, ‘The vertical door handles are advanced by some as a clue to the truck coming from Sodertalje, Scania’s headquarters just outside Stockholm. Also the side panels and roof line do look a little Scania-ish’. Scania have been reluctant to even acknowledge the new model’s existence until this week.
August 23 is the date Scania has announced will be when it will start the launch of its new truck generation by revealing the first units designed for the European long-haulage segment. It will be the public debut of the largest ever investment in new products and services by Scania, which at the same time is celebrating its 125th anniversary.
“The common denominator is that Scania has developed a broad range of tailored products and service solutions, which help to reduce operating and maintenance costs, and also to boost vehicle uptime,” said a Scania statement.
“Scania aims to become the leader in sustainable transport, where partnerships and digitalisation will play an increasingly important role. Sustainability is also one of the watchwords in the coming launch, as this will be crucial for the future competitiveness of Scania and its customers and also for their customers.”
The new models are to be introduced in several phases, Scania intend to sell both the new range and the current generation of trucks side-by-side in the period of transition to a complete new range. The gradual introduction of the new generation will start with applications for trucks in the European long-haulage segment and will later be followed by additional truck variants.
“We are now in the final phase of preparing the sales and service network as well as the European production units,” said Christian Levin, Scania Executive Vice President Sales and Marketing. “At the moment, we are not providing any further information about the many innovations, which are in store. But I am convinced that what Scania will unveil on 23 August will be talked about – both inside and outside the industry.”
