Yet again in January YouTube is going to get full of videos of trucks stuck in the sand. It’s Dakar Rally time and the only globally televised truck race gets onto the TV and onto the web.
The headliners on the TV are the rally cars, specially designed to handle the ridiculously difficult conditions in the deserts and mountains of South America. Peru, Bolivia and Argentina are this year’s hosts as car, trucks, ATVs and bikes battle it out for line or class honours.
The trucks do get their share of the limelight as they carve out a dual role as support vehicle for the car teams, but also compete between themselves for the title.
