It is with great sadness the team at Diesel News heard the news of the passing away of Geoff Paradise, this week. Geoff died as the result of a head-on collision between his car and a school bus late last week.
Our thoughts are with his family at this time, his wife, Jacqui and, children, Nick, Amy and Maddy. He will be missed by all as a larger than life character filled with a great passion for the truck industry and his beloved hot rods.
Last year, Geoff had given up his life as a magazine publisher of Transport and Trucking Today and commercial vehicle columnist for the Fairfax newspapers to take up a role as the Senior Manager Public Affairs for Daimler Trucks. He was responsible for communications around the Freightliner, Mercedes Benz and Fuso truck brands.
Always outspoken, Geoff had taken on the challenge of putting his money where his mouth is, in improving the image of a truck maker he had often taken to task about the way it had presented itself to the truck buying public.
This role came after a long career as a motoring journalist which included starting with hot rod magazines, before going on to be the founding editor of Street Machine and working on Hot Rod magazine in the US. 15 years ago, he became publisher and editor of Transport Today, and, later, Coach and Bus.
The truck industry needs people who have a passion for the needs of the trucking community, and a strong sense of right and wrong when it comes to improvement in the world of trucks and trucking. Geoff will be sorely missed, both as an enthusiast and a personal friend.
