Automotive importer WMC Group has signed a long term distribution agreement with SAIC Motor Commercial Vehicle Company (SMCV) at the firm’s headquarters in Shanghai. At the same time WMC also signed its first order for 120 LDV vans as launch stock for its 45-strong dealer network.

According to Jason Pecotic, WMC chief executive, the multi-year agreement secures the company’s long-term distribution rights, allowing it to invest strongly in after sales support and parts back up.

“I believe we have demonstrated our enthusiasm and professionalism for the LDV van during the past few months as preparations for the launch of the new vehicles has been underway and this has given SMCV the confidence to agree to a long-term agreement,” Pecotic said. “Commercial in confidence precludes us from revealing the exact term of the agreement, suffice to say that so long as performance requirements are met WMC Group will be distributing SMCV product in Australia for most of the next decade.

“We are very proud to be the Australian distributor for LDV and our dealer network is eager to start selling these advanced, European designed and engineered vehicles,” he added.

The first SMCV products to be launched in Australia will be the LDV van and mini bus which are set for a local launch in October, with other models and variants to follow in 2013.

Lan Qingsong, managing director of SMCV, said the company was very pleased to sign a multi-year distribution agreement and is looking forward to a very successful launch and a long and mutually beneficial relationship with WMC Group in Australia.

“Australia is a very important new market for SMCV and the LDV brand so the extensive work WMC Group has put into preparing for the launch of the brand has set the foundation for a very successful future,” he said.

The LDV van and mini bus are powered by a 2.5 litre VM diesel which meets Euro 5 (ADR 80-03) emissions standards while delivering 100 kW of power and 330 Nm of torque. Other standard features include rear barn doors, tyre pressure monitoring, 16 inch alloy wheels and dual sliding doors with electrically deployed entry steps.
